Trails Regional Library Receives Summer Reading Grant

Trails Regional Library is proud to announce that it was awarded a Summer Library Program Grant of $7,750 from the Missouri State Library for its Tails and Tales Community Reading Program.

Together with partners including the Leeton School District and the Migrant Farmworkers Assistance Fund, Trails Regional Library will utilize the grant funding to provide reading logs, performers, and Take-and-Make activities to encourage reading for all ages across Johnson and Lafayette Counties. The theme “Tails and Tales” will utilize representative animal teams to encourage reading through community collaboration toward a common goal.

The program will run from June 1 – July 31, 2021 with both in-person and online participation options.

Trails Regional Library hosts an annual Summer Reading Program to enhance and expand summer learning experiences and opportunities for underserved populations, especially school-aged children. The main objective of the program is to prevent the “summer slide,” where students lose critical reading skills while out of school during the summer.

This project is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act as administered by the Missouri State Library, a division of the Office of the Secretary of State.
